Revelation 2:10

A few months ago I remember seeing a news report on television about a new blood test that doctors developed to determine whether or not an unborn child has Down’s Syndrome. Until this new test, the only way to detect the disease in an unborn child was either through amniocentesis (which requires a doctor to insert a needle through the skin into the womb), or through a tissue sample taken from an area very close to the womb. These kinds of tests are called “invasive procedures,” because they invade the child’s “home.” The new blood test is “non-invasive” because it does not require an invasion into, or near, the womb.

The reason why the news reporter was so excited about this non-invasive test was because it would allow a mother to know within the first eight weeks of pregnancy if her child had Down’s Syndrome, as opposed to the second or third trimester, as required by the other tests. Then she revealed the reason why knowing about the disease so early was important to the medical community. If it was determined within the first eight weeks of pregnancy that a child did in fact have Down’s Syndrome, it would make it easier for a mother to abort the baby. I couldn’t believe my ears!

The doctor reporting this breakthrough was beside herself with excitement because mothers could now determine early on whether or not they wanted to kill those same children that they wanted earlier to protect by a non-invasive procedure. That tells me what the real issue is: if the baby is healthy, then the non-invasive procedure would be good, because who would want to chance harming a healthy baby by an invasive test. But if the baby is not healthy and would require extra love and care after he’s born, kill him. What has this country become?

The Bible still teaches that God hates the “hands that shed innocent blood” (Proverbs 6:16-19). There are rivers of innocent blood flowing in our country because of legalized murder, antiseptically called by some, “a woman’s right to choose.” Let us pray for our country (1 Timothy 2:1-2).
