GOD'S PLAN OF SALVATION

When listening to the thoughts expressed by modern
man, it doesn’t take long to realize that false conceptions of God
are the rule rather than the exception. Because of those who deny
God exists and those that admit His existence but deny what the
Bible teaches about Him, we need to reacquaint ourselves and our
world with the God of the Bible. Through what means can we come to
know the only true God?
By Observing the Created World
In Psalm 19:1-4 David teaches that by observing the
heavens one can see the glory and handiwork of God. In addition,
there is not a time or place on earth where the voice of the heavens
cannot be heard declaring the existence of God. To the idolatrous
inhabitants of Lystra who had just tried to worship him and Barnabas
as gods, Paul said that the one, true God of heaven had given them
ample evidence of His existence. The rain from heaven and fruitful
seasons, which brought so much gladness of heart to those who did
not know Him, were witnesses to God’s existence and power (Acts
14:17). Simply put, those who “refuse to have God in their
knowledge” (Rom. 1:28) are “without excuse” (Rom. 1:20).
By Observing God’s Word
At one time, God communicated His will to the world
through men called “prophets,” but with the completion of His
written will, He has ceased all such communication (cf. Heb. 1:1-2;
1 Cor. 13:8-10). The inspired Paul wrote, “All Scripture is given by
inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for
correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God
may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work” (2 Tim.
3:16-17). The Scriptures that we have before us are God’s words to
us. Therefore, by reading them we can come to know God in greater
fashion than we ever could without them.
The words that will meet us in judgment, spoken by
Jesus, are ultimately the words that the Father gave to Him (John
12:48-50). John 14:26 and 16:13 indicate that the words given to the
apostles by the Holy Spirit were the words of Jesus. The Spirit
would bring to their remembrance all that Jesus had spoken to them.
If the words the apostles wrote were the words of Jesus, and the
words of Jesus were the words of the Father, then the words of the
apostles are also the words of the Father. Therefore, ALL of the
Bible reveals God.
God has revealed Himself to us through His created
world and through His inspired word. Let us use those two great
evidences of God to increase our knowledge of and love of Him.
